Mechanical Manifesto

Look around at all of life’s devices there is one profession that is responsible for all things humans use.  The profession is called Mechanical Engineering it is the all knowing profession that designs and figures how to make things.  It doesn’t matter if it is a major bridge connecting two cities or as minor as a toothpick.  They are also the people that look for new innovations to help advance the world to a newer level.  They help develop new medical technologies to save lives in the operating room, and they are developing clean energy options for a brighter future.
Mechanical Engineers go to school to and try to learn all the fundamentals behind what it takes to make and design things.  Mechanical engineers learn how to make sure materials do not fail under many types of fatigues and loads.  They design machines to make all types of things and keep prices smaller.  Like mentioned before a toothpick is made on a very complex manufacturing line, which all the machines were designed by a mechanical engineer.  Mechanical engineers are responsible for all kinds of products across the world.  They also know how to validate if a bridge will fail, or how big to make your brakes to make sure that your car can stop on a dime.
Mechanical Engineers are and invaluable profession.  They are absolutely the minds behind all things.  I am a mechanical engineer that works for a plastic pipe manufacturer, and I can verify simple things still requires very much engineering.  If there were no mechanical engineers there would be a lot less innovation in the world.  Although there may be very innovative people that can design, mechanical engineers have the knowledge to make sure these ideas will work prior to making anything.  Mechanical Engineers can mathematically prove or disprove and idea, save money, and insure safety.  Mechanical engineers have a very broad knowledge base that makes them so valuable to society.  Mechanical engineering is the broadest disciplines of engineering.  Mechanical engineering is also one of the oldest areas for college majors.  Engineers were the reason for the railroads and canals that built this country.   Mechanical engineers are the minds behind all things innovative.

  1. I completely agree with your views of importance and innovation concerning Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, I love that you had a broad range of examples, toothpicks to bridges, to support what you were saying. The history is very interesting, but might be more effective to what you are trying to convey if it was put near the beginning .

My biggest suggestion to making the Manifesto perfect is to watch grammar and sentence structure. Be consistent (ex. "Mechanical Engineering" versus "Mechanical engineering". Other than that, I think you have a great foundation.

  2. I like the opening to your manifesto. It made me pay attention to things around me a bit more. I never gave much thought about your profession and what it does. You have definately taught me about mechanical engineers. I would suggest proofreading your work a little closer. I found some spelling and grammatical errors.
